Our Materials

About our Leather

Our American tanned bridle leather utilizes a natural vegetable dye and tanning process that has been practiced by our Pennsylvania-based tannery partner since the 1800s. The smooth and durable finish is achieved through the combination of oil and wax impregnated into the skin to make your handmade M&U Co. wallet last a lifetime. That's our guarantee. We will refinish, re-wax or repair your wallet and if it does not stand the test of time we will replace it. Please know that dark burnishing around the edges and change in color overtime are all part of the natural aging process of our leathers that we consider to be character improvements and do not validate a reason for return replacement or repairs.

About our Wood

We use sustainably-harvested, American hardwoods. Like all organic materials, each board will have its own unique grain and shade, meaning no two pieces will be identical. We work with our Michigan woodworkers to allow a range of board-widths to produce the least amount of material waste. This requires additional labor to plane and glue-up multiple boards, but we think the resulting products are worth the extra effort. Our wood pieces are finished with a durable, low-sheen varnish and will stand up to many years of daily use.

About our Brass

We use two alloys of American Brass, #260 and #360.
